The LAST annual Gouldian finch census will be held at Wyndham, in the eastern Kimberley of Western Australia from 1-5 September 2013

We need as many volunteer helpers as possible to successfully complete the census this year.

Applicants who are individual Save The Gouldian Fund members and/or donors will be given preference.

It is essential that each volunteer has a good pair of binoculars of his/her own.

Volunteers intending to participate in the census will need to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

Sunday 1st September

• Assemble at Parry Creek Farm at 5.00pm.
• Presentation – Dr Sarah Pryke – Discussion of current threats to the Gouldian Finch and an overview of the current research projects.
• Induction – Dr Sarah Pryke and Mike Fidler – Guidance on what we are going to be doing for the following four days.

Monday 2nd – Thursday 4th September

• Bird counting at waterholes at dawn
• Rest of the day free OR
• Opportunity to go birding with experts at Emma Gorge/El Questro OR
• Participate in nest box building workshop
• Evening barbeque at sunset at Bastion Lookout

Accommodation available at Parry Creek Farm

The following special prices for accommodation at Parry Creek Farm, Wyndham are available for people involved with the Gouldian Finch Count in September 2013.

You need to register with the STGF before booking accommodation.

The prices shown below are for two people in each room – some rooms have extra beds available at $25 per person.

Self-contained en suite cabins – $180 per night
Sleeps 2 to 4 people – $30 per extra person – 4 available

Large rooms (not en suite) – $95 per night (usually $125).
Sleeps 2 to 4 people – $30 per extra person – 6 available

Safari tents (not en suite) Sleeps 2 – $50 per night – 8 available

Powered camp sites – $34 per night (usually $38)

Unpowered camp sites – $15 per night (usually $17)

All prices include GST. As in previous years, rooms are serviced as required. Fresh water, tea, coffee, milk, et.c are supplied. Meals will be as per the menu unless otherwise organized.

4WD Vehicle rental discounts from Budget in Kununurra

A full size 4WD wagon – Mitsubishi Challenger (or similar vehicle) is $90.44 per day with 200kms included free per day. Additional kilometres are charged at $0.27 per km (or $27 per 100kms). Damage liability excess payable on these vehicles for any one incident is $5000.00 plus taxes. By paying the additional protection option of $30.95 per day the maximum damage liability payable is reduced to $1000.00 plus taxes.

A 4WD Dual cab ute is $112.63 per day with 200kms included free per day. Additional kilometres are charged at $0.27 per km (or $27 per 100kms). Damage liability excess payable on these vehicles for any one incident is $6000.00 plus taxes. By paying the additional protection option of $30.95 per day the maximum damage liability payable is reduced to $1500.00 plus taxes.

Anyone booking a vehicle will have to inform Budget Kununurra that they are an official member of the Save The Gouldian Fund census group.
